A Wrap to a Great Community Youth Event

Putting smiles on children and youth’s faces is what our “Music and a Meal” program was all about!

The inaugural tri-Youth Orchestra Festival concert and the Patriots Arts Coalition’s “Music and a Meal” program were both resounding successes this past Saturday January 26! The 150 young musicians delivered outstanding performances from all 3 ensembles (Youth Orchestra of Central Jersey, Greater Princeton Youth Orchestra, and Bravura Youth Orchestra). And there were so many smiles, joy, and positive energy at lunch for the Trenton youth who attended that we dare say it could power the World! 150 Trenton Youth attended- from our wonderful civic partners the Boys & Girls Club, Millhill Child & Family Development, HomeFront, UIH Family Partners, and several families from the 1st Lady’s Family Festival.

Trenton youth enjoyed a great meal provided by the 1911 Smoke House Barbeque and the Big Easy Of Trenton restaurants, watched a powerfully educational theater skit performed by Millhill Child & Family Development’s Next Generation Leaders, then attended the youth orchestra concert to see some amazing youth musicians shine on the grand stage. They also got to see some “behind the scenes” of how youth orchestras work together in practice and preparation. It was another step in the right direction of utilizing the grand Patriots Theater at the War Memorial in Trenton as an epicenter of community- bringing people together from inside and outside of Trenton to enhance joy and provide opportunities to broaden horizons.

James Bushong, Director of the Patriots Arts Coalition, spoke on stage about the deeper meanings of Unity, Community, and Opportunity of events like this Youth Orchestra Festival

The Patriots Arts Coalition is enormously grateful to the participating civic organizations- events like this are positive extensions of the work that they and similar civic organizations in and around Trenton do day in and day out to help bring more joy and opportunity to those in need. We also thank NJM Insurance Group for generously sponsoring 50 Trenton youth to attend the “Music and a Meal” program.
