Princeton Mercer Regional Chamber Community Development Fund Awarded $35,400 in Grants Last Week

Princeton, NJ – November 11th, 2019 – The Princeton Mercer Regional Chamber of Commerce Community Development Fund (PMRC-CDF) awarded $35,000 in grants to local nonprofits last week. The ceremonial announcement and check presentation took place at the Princeton Mercer Regional Chamber’s November Luncheon on November 7th at 11:30AM.

The Princeton Mercer Regional Chamber and the Princeton Regional Chamber of Commerce Foundation working together established the Princeton Mercer Regional Chamber of Commerce Community Development Fund in July of 2013. Starting with a $500,000 gift from the Chamber of Commerce Foundation to the Princeton Area Community Foundation, the goal was to provide support to nonprofits located throughout the Chamber’s Central New Jersey footprint. Grants are given annually to the most promising programs that address one or more of the Fund’s focus areas: education, leadership, economic opportunity and development, and self-sufficiency.

“We are proud to continue to provide these annual Community Development Grants to non-profit organizations in our region,” said John Goedecke, Chairman of the Princeton Mercer Regional Chamber. “This is the 7th consecutive year that the Chamber in partnership with the Princeton Area Community Foundation has awarded development grants providing financial support for the vital work of these outstanding community-based organizations.”

The 2019 grant recipients include:

  • UrbanPromise Trenton
  • Community Action Service Center d/b/a/ Rise
  • Rescue Mission of Trenton
  • Best Buddies New Jersey

“This year we had our largest pool of organizations requesting funding,” said Kristin Appelget, Chairwoman of the Princeton Mercer Regional Chamber’s Community Development Fund. “Every year our committee is challenged to select recipients from among a deep and deserving pool of grant applications.”  We are fortunate to have many well-run organizations working hard each day to make our region a better place to live and to serve those who have challenges in their lives.”

“To date our Chamber’s Community Development Fund has awarded over $250,000 in grants to non-profit organizations,” said Peter Crowley, President & CEO of the Princeton Mercer Regional Chamber. “We know that these awards are making a difference for our region’s non-profits and we look forward to awarding the next $250,000 over the next few years.”
